Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy describes how TaxHarvest (“TaxHarvest,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, discloses, and protects your information when you visit our website, create an account, or use our tax-aware investing tools (collectively, the “Services”). By using the Services, you agree to the terms of this Policy.
1. Information we collect
We collect the following categories of information:
Information you provide
- Account information — your name, email address, password, and billing details when you sign up or subscribe.
- Profile and tax preferences — filing status, estimated income, cost-basis method, and harvest-rule configuration you enter to personalize the Services.
- Support communications — messages, attachments, and feedback you send to us.
Information collected from your brokerage
When you connect a brokerage account, our brokerage data providers (such as Plaid, SnapTrade, or equivalent integrations) share read-only financial data with us, including account identifiers, positions, lots, cost basis, transaction history, and balances. We use this data to calculate tax impact and suggest trades. We do not store your brokerage credentials.
Information collected automatically
- Device and log data — IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, pages viewed, and timestamps.
- Cookies and similar technologies — used for authentication, session management, analytics, and measuring marketing performance. You can control cookies through your browser settings.
- Usage data — actions taken inside the app, such as features used, portfolios viewed, and settings changed.
2. How we use information
We use your information to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain the Services;
- Calculate tax-loss harvesting opportunities, projected tax bills, and replacement-security suggestions;
- Authenticate users and secure accounts;
- Process payments and manage subscriptions;
- Communicate with you about product updates, security alerts, and support requests;
- Improve our models, features, and user experience;
- Detect, prevent, and investigate fraud, abuse, or violations of our Terms;
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our agreements.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your brokerage data to train general-purpose machine-learning models.
3. How we share information
We share information only in the following circumstances:
- Service providers. Vendors that host our infrastructure, process payments, send email, provide analytics, and integrate with brokerages. These providers are bound by contract to protect your data and use it only on our instructions.
- Brokerage connections. When you initiate a trade or link an account, the Services transmit the necessary instructions to your brokerage and/or our brokerage-connectivity partners.
- Legal and safety. When required by law, subpoena, or legal process, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of TaxHarvest, our users, or the public.
- Business transfers. In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to the acquirer honoring the commitments in this Policy.
- With your consent. For any other purpose you explicitly authorize.
4. Data retention
We retain account and transaction data for as long as your account is active and for a reasonable period afterwards to comply with tax, accounting, and legal obligations, resolve disputes, and enforce our agreements. You may request deletion of your account at any time (see Section 6).
5. Security
We protect your information using industry-standard measures, including encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, access controls, audit logging, and regular security reviews. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
6. Your rights and choices
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you;
- Port your information to another service;
- Object to or restrict certain processing;
- Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent;
- Opt out of marketing communications at any time via the unsubscribe link in our emails;
- Lodge a complaint with a data-protection regulator.
California residents have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know the categories of personal information collected, the right to delete, the right to correct, and the right to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information. TaxHarvest does not sell personal information. To exercise any of these rights, email us at privacy@taxharvest.ai.
7. International transfers
TaxHarvest is based in the United States. If you access the Services from outside the United States, your information may be transferred to, stored in, and processed in the United States or other countries where our service providers operate. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards such as standard contractual clauses for cross-border transfers.
8. Children’s privacy
The Services are not directed to children under 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.
9. Third-party links
The Services may contain links to third-party websites or services (including your brokerage). This Policy does not apply to those third parties; please review their privacy notices.
10. Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will notify you by email or through the Services and update the “Last updated” date above. Continued use of the Services after the changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
